Jazlynn Moody
Jazlynn is a Resident in Counseling and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with an M.Ed in Counselor Education from the University of Virginia. She worked as a school counselor for eight years before transitioning to the role of Student Assistance Specialist, where she supports initiatives that promote student connectedness, enhance student resilience, and provide education on mental health and substance use issues. With over a decade of experience in school-based counseling, Jazlynn has helped teens and young adults navigate anxiety, stress, life transitions, and emotional challenges. Her approach is collaborative and strengths-based, integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients develop self-awareness and effective coping skills. She is committed to creating a supportive and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered.
I worked with a student who was struggling with anxiety and low self-confidence, which was impacting their academics and relationships. After building a trusting relationship, we worked on coping strategies, identifying negative thought patterns, and replacing them with more balanced, positive self-talk. Over time, the student gained confidence in advocating for themselves, managing their stress, and recognizing their strengths. Seeing them go from feeling overwhelmed to feeling empowered in their daily life was incredibly rewarding and reinforced my passion for early intervention and student support.
My counseling process is personalized, collaborative, and goal-focused. In the beginning, we will explore your concerns, strengths, and goals. As we move forward, sessions will include self-reflection, skill-building, and practical strategies tailored to your unique needs. I want to ensure that therapy is engaging, supportive, and actionable. Whether you’re working on managing stress, improving emotional regulation, or navigating life transitions, we will work together to help you feel more empowered and in control.
In the first session, I focus on getting to know you in a comfortable, pressure-free way. We will talk about what brings you to therapy, your background, and your goals for counseling. I will also explain what therapy might look like with me, answer any questions, and ensure that we establish a pace that feels right for you. The first session is also a great time to discuss any preferences, concerns, or specific challenges you’d like to focus on, so we can start building a foundation for meaningful progress.
I am motivated by the transformational power of therapy—the ability to help people find hope, build resilience, and create meaningful change in their lives. Throughout my career, I have witnessed how understanding oneself, processing emotions, and developing coping strategies can significantly impact a person’s well-being. It is incredibly fulfilling to be part of a client’s journey toward growth, healing, and self-acceptance.
