Jen is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who has been working with children, adults, and families for over 20 years. Jen started her career working in a residential facility with at risk youth and quickly found that working in the mental health field was her passion. While Jen worked to obtain her Bachelors Degree from Leslie University and her Masters Degree from Boston University, she held a variety of positions working with incarcerated individuals, people with substance use disorders, and children and families. Once she obtained her Masters Degree, she continued to hone her clinical practice as well as develop and utilize leadership skills in the non profit sector and has overseen both residential and community based programs providing clinical supervision and training, program development, and oversight.
The first thing that comes to mind is working with an adult client who was working on healing some childhood trauma. The client was abused by their father and their mother let this happen. The client was able to see how mom had let them down and how this impacted their adult relationships.
I often check in with them about how they feel the process is going. i will review goals at every session and ask them about their current functioning.
Typically review of consents and policy's then on to the assessments. 2nd session is treatment planning, 3rd is beginning the work and developing a therapeutic rapport.
As cliche as it sounds, I enjoy helping people manage their struggles and heal from trauma.
