I have been working in the substance/addiction field the last few years and often work with individuals who have been struggling with addictions for a number of years with multiple relapses. I recently worked with an older gentleman who had thirty plus years of alcohol dependence, multiple relapses, treatments. He came to treatment this last time with a newfound commitment, agreed to continued long term treatment after his first 28 days. I recently received an email letting me know he successfully completed his longterm treatment and went on to earn his peer support certificate.
I work with you were you are. I utilize a variety of counseling techniques ranging from motivational interviewing to Cognitive Behavioral therapies. We will develop goals throughout the process and work on achieving them no matter how big or small. The goal is the get you where you need to be so that you are in a place of stability with the skills to work through challenges as they arise.
During the first session I will ask questions to learn about you. This is a get to know you session and give you a chance to ask questions that you feel are important. This is where we start to learn about what goals you want to achieve. The process is You driven.
I like helping people. I like seeing people achieve their goals and overcome obstacles that they didn't think they could. I love learning and sharing that knowledge with others. It's a way to give back.
