FAQs

I have found that, at times, we are uncertain as to the impact we may have on an individual. However, when a client has identified a comment or principle discussed during a session that resonated with them and helped them to reframe a situation positively has been significantly rewarding. One case in particular was a woman who had been severely abused as a child. We had been discussing unshackling herself from the inappropriate behaviors of the adults in her life. This approach helped her to release the shame and blame she placed on herself for the abuse she endured.

I believe in a holistic approach and conducting a thorough intake with the client is essential as the first step in the process. I often explore the client's character strengths to identify what aspects of themselves they see as positive. Clients would identify their goals for counseling, which will determine potential intervention techniques. We would discuss their challenges, identify barriers, explore, identify, and implement coping strategies.

My first session would be a thorough intake with the first step to identify reasons the client has sought out counseling services. I would inquire about current functioning and how the challenge is impacting both in the present and, if appropriate, in the past. I would obtain a life history to include family of origin, current family dynamics, mental health history(individual/family), alcohol/drug history, education, and career. I would end the session by discussing the next steps and providing an overview of my holistic approach.

When I was younger, there were several of my friends who seemed to gravitate toward me or my mother for assistance. I believe that our ability to empathize and demonstrate compassion provided a safe space for individuals to come to us. My mother has been an inspiration in my life as she has given back to so many people, including myself. I believed that I could provide a safe environment for individuals to discuss the challenges in their lives, while encouraging them to find their inner strength would be an amazing way to honor my mother and others who have been inspirational in my life.

Highlights

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My goal would be for clients to discover their resilience and inner strength to implement coping strategies to address challenges in their lives. I desire that clients identify their capability of implementing healthy practices that incorporate their passions, talents, and strengths. I would encourage clients to continue their growth journey with the ability to recognize challenges and barriers to identify and implement strategies to address obstacles that they encounter.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Existential Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy & Trauma-Focused Therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe that I work best with individuals who have experienced trauma resulting in anxiety-related and depressive symptomatology. My acumen has been with abuse-related trauma and grief. I have worked with diverse populations, including individuals in the foster care system, disaster survivors, and domestic violence. Another strength that I have recently developed has been working with couples to identify communication challenges and finding healthy ways to connect and thrive in their marriage.
