Kiara Smith
Kiara Smith is a Resident in Counseling who received a bachelor's degree in Sociology, and a MA in Humans Services with a Concentration on Marriage and Family and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She has worked in several capacities that include Therapeutic Day Treatment, Intensive In home, Crisis work, School-Based Therapy, Prevention work, and Psychosocial Rehabilitation. To implement her own efforts of self-care she enjoys traveling, spending time with her husband, family and friends, reading, and spending time with her dog Kash.
I had a client who struggled with appropriate peer relationships and socialcues. During sessions, we would be able to discuss, and role play socialsituations, in efforts to assist them with practicing how to approachspecific situations. After meeting with one another regularly andparticipating in those activities, the client was able to recognize howtheir behaviors could be inappropriate and correct them by working on beinga better friend. This caused them to feel very good about themself andboosted their confidence.
Client's can expect the counseling process to go at a pace that iscomfortable and driven by them. They can expect a safe space that isnon-judgmental. My hope is to be able to allow clients to feel heard, validated, and supported at all times.
The first session with me usually serves as an introductory period, in whichwe will discuss presenting problems and goals for therapy. This will alsoinclude me gathering background information about the client and otherrelevant information that may be beneficial for treatment. We will alsobegin to work on rapport building in hopes to develop a positive therapeuticrelationship.
What motivates me to be a therapist is being able to be a voice and advocatefor those who may be struggling on their own and letting them know thatthey aren't alone.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I believe that my biggest strengths is my ability to be able to meet people where theyare. I believe that it is important to be able to be a support for those seeking help andsometimes that means just listening or being silent when needed. I love to show up forpeople and provide encouragement and support when needed.
