I helped a client with low self confidence in the workplace. Despite consistently receiving good feedback, She was afraid to advocate for herself and would second guess every decision. I helped her realize that she was worthy of being heard and we worked together to raise her confidence, taking advantage of tools like public speaking classes.
First we build a rapport and I hear the client's story. Trust is crucial and that takes time, so we go at the client's own pace. Many clients tell me they like the questions I ask since it helps them reflect on the issue and figure out new ways to solve them. I hand select a variety of coping skills or wellness tools to support the client outside of our therapy sessions.
The first session consists of getting to know the client to establish a rapport. As well as obtaining an understanding of the problem and working with the client to help them devise their therapy goal or goals. A lot of clients tell me they feel better after the first session.
As a child I was fortunate to have many elderly aunts and uncles in my life. I loved hearing their stories, seeing the smile on their faces and hearing the gratitude expressed when I helped them. Even today, I am motivated by helping people feel better, feel empowered and take back their lives.
