Manda Miles
Manda is a graduate of Simmons University and has worked in a variety of settings, including primary care and virtual psychotherapy. With an undergraduate degree in anthropology, she enjoys getting to know people from all backgrounds, ages, and walks of life. Manda specializes in treating anxiety and OCD and is certified in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). She also enjoys working with individuals experiencing depression, navigating significant life changes, and managing relationship conflicts. Her personality leans toward the informal, and she appreciates incorporating humor into her work. Additionally, Manda is a huge animal lover, so she welcomes pets to be nearby—or even on camera—during sessions
A client who, after a significant motor vehicle accident had extreme anxiety about driving or even being in a car, was able to casually drive to an event in poor weather without even thinking about it. Only later did she realize the magnitude of what had happened. You better believe we celebrated in our next session!
I feel like clients come to me with goals, and part of my job is first helping them understand what those goals are. Sometimes they're very obvious, but often they're more subtle. Once we've identified what is most important, I really want to help guide my clients in that direction. Goals often change(and that's ok!) but I never want people to feel like they're "stuck" for an indefinite period of time.
My intakes are all about the client and myself getting to know each other. That means I ask a LOT of questions, in order to formulate a treatment plan, find and articulate goals, and discuss client preferences for the therapeutic process. I give the client plenty of opportunity and encouragement to ask me a lot of questions as well. I think therapy really shines when the process is collaborative. I'm not the expert on any client, and their contribution to the process outweighs my own.
I'm old enough to understand how easy it is to fall into patterns, to get stuck, and to feel like change is not worth the effort. Sometimes we all need an objective outside clinical opinion to shine light on the things we can't see. I love helping clients grow into the person they want to be, and being apart of that therapeutic relationship is such a privilege.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
It really depends on how clients want their sessions to go! I lean toward somewhat structured sessions but I am always asking for feedback on how clients' would like their sessions to flow. Some people love homework and want to spend time reviewing it; others definitely do not. I'm open to using a schedule in our sessions, or playing it by ear, however the client prefers.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Response Therapy (ERP), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing & Solution-Focused Therapy.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I tailor the work to your expectations. Like directed, solution-focused sessions? No problem. A homework fan? You've got it. But if you're looking for a looser, psychotherapy-style session, we can do that to. I will solicit your input right at the start, and continue to ask for feedback as we work. I also love data, so measurements can figure into our work together, unless you prefer not.
