Hello! I'm Rebecca. I am an independently licensed counselor in Virginia and Washington with four years of licensed practice. I've worked as a social worker for over twenty-four years before becoming a counselor. I have experience working with people from many different cultures, backgrounds, and religions. I work with you to focus on your goals in a safe way without judgement. We have many different skills we can use together to acknowledge your strengths, skills, and areas you would like to work on during our time together. I see each person I work with as a unique individual and will adapt what we do to best fit you.
I supported a person who was very afraid of animals through a gentle exposure process until at the end he decided to get a large dog as a pet. The smiles on his face as he introduced me to his new dog was a moment I will always remember.
Our counseling process will generally involve checking in to see how the week went. We will discuss any news items that need to be discussed. We will also review any skills practiced during the week as well as the results of the skills practice. We will decide together some additional skills or tools that may be helpful until the next time we meet.
You can expect for us to start to get to know each other and our expectations for our time together in our first session. It is a great time for some questions and planning for the future.
I am motivated to be a counselor because I have the opportunity to support people on their journey to meet their goals, build skills, utilize tools, and move their life forward in a way that has meaning for them.
